Folic acid is a precursor to folate and is probably the most important nutrient when it comes to preconception. It is most well-known for its role in preventing neural tube defects such as spina bifida, when trying to conceive and during the first trimester of pregnancy. Unfortunately, about 1 in 3 women have difficulty absorbing folic acid due to MTHFR gene variants.
Our Activated Folate & B-Vitamins contains Quatrefolic®, a patented, biologically active form of folate that helps to bypass folic acid conversion limitations, supporting your preconception health and helping to support healthy foetal CNS/brain development in early pregnancy.
Each mini tablet contains:
- Levomefolic acid (Quatrefolic® as Levomefolate glucosamine) 500mcg
- Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) 1.4mg
- Nicotinic acid (Vitamin B3) 18mg
- Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6 as Pyridoxine hydrochloride) 1.9 mg
- Mecobalamin (Vitamin B12 as co-methylcobalamin) 500mcg
Take one tablet per day with a main meal or as directed by your healthcare practitioner.
Always read the label and follow the directions for use. Do not use if seal is broken or missing. Advise your doctor of any medicine you take during pregnancy, particularly in your first trimester. Don’t exceed the stated dose except on medical advice. If you have had a baby with a neural tube defect or spina bifida, seek specific medical advice. Vitamins and minerals can only be of assistance if dietary intake in inadequate.

Do I Need Activated Folate?
Optimal Absorption
Levemofolic acid is the biologically active form of folate used by the body. To reach this stage, folic acid is converted through a series of steps within in the body, with some being lost or converted to other nutrients along the way. Supplementation with biologically active forms of folate supports optimal absorption.
MTHFR Gene Variants
For mums who have a genetic variant in MTHFR (about 1 in 3), you may need to take activated folate. Always check with your healthcare professional.
Dietary Gap
The recommended daily intake (RDI) of folate during pregnancy is 600 micrograms. This is roughly equivalent to:
- 350g Spinach
- 280g Lentils
- 460g Broccoli
OR
- 1x Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins + 45g Chickpeas/ 100 microgram equiv. dietary folate.

Got questions? We have the answers.
What is the difference between Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B Vitamins and a conventional folic acid supplement?
Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins is different to conventional folic acid supplements. It features Quatrefolic®, which is an active form of folate called 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (or 5-MTHF for short). This is important for people with a genetic difference in the enzyme that activates folic acid, known as MTHFR, to be able to properly utilise folate. Synthetic folic acid found in conventional prenatal vitamins requires a number of steps to be converted into 5-MTHF.
Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins can help support adequate folate levels in those who require the active form of folate, 5-MTHF, in pre-conception and during pregnancy.
I am a vegetarian or vegan, is Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins suitable for me?
Yes, Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B Vitamins is vegetarian and vegan friendly. It contains 500 mcg of vitamin B12 to help support your requirements on a plant-based diet too. Always check with your healthcare professional for any medicine you take during pregnancy.
Why does Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B Vitamins contain other B-Vitamins?
Folate (vitamin B9) works best when taken in conjunctions with other B vitamins – especially vitamin B12. B12 is essential to ‘activate’ folate and plays a supportive role in performing functions such as cell growth and DNA synthesis.
How do I switch from another folate vitamin to Perdays?
It’s always best to advise your healthcare professionals when taking pregnancy vitamins. If you need to stop taking the previous vitamin, you may start taking Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins the next morning, 1 tablet per day, or as directed by your healthcare professionals.
Can I take Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins instead of a prenatal multi-vitamin like Perdays Key Essentials + DHA?
Great question! We designed our Activated Folate & B-Vitamins to be a simpler and easier to tolerate formula for those who experience significant nausea and gastric upset during pregnancy. Sometimes, even the most advanced formulas of prenatal multivitamins may be too difficult to stomach in the throes of morning sickness, nausea and even vomiting in the early stages of pregnancy.
Ideally, you would want to take the most comprehensive prenatal supplement, like our Perdays Key Essentials + DHA. If that’s not practical, due to pregnancy symptoms, switching to Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins can be an option, to ensure you still meet your folate demands in pregnancy.”.
When should I start taking Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins?
Perdays Preconception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins can be taken before, during and after pregnancy. It is recommended to start taking a folate supplement 1-3 months before trying to conceive, to help ensure your levels are optimised before conception. You should continue folate supplementation throughout pregnancy where folate demands increase from 400 mcg per day to 600 mcg per day.
Already pregnant? Congratulations! It is recommended to start our Pregnancy Key Essentials & DHA that contains folate right away, it’s not too late to start nurturing you and your baby!
Whilst breastfeeding, folate demands remain elevated compared to pre-conception requirements, however lower than pregnancy demands at 500 mcg per day. Always advise your doctor of any medicine you take during pregnancy, particularly in your first trimester.
How should I take Perdays Pre-conception Activated Folate & B-Vitamins?
Take 1 tablet daily in the morning with or after food, or as directed by your healthcare professionals.
